Xbox Gameplay Chart: Fortnite makes a comeback

By Heidi Nicholas,
Fortnite was ignominiously booted out of the top spot of our Xbox Gameplay Chart a few weeks ago, and since then the only real challenge to Modern Warfare's reign was GTA V. Fortnite, stuck at no. 3, was almost pushed to the background as the two other titles battled it out for the no. 1 spot. Now, largely thanks to the launch of Fortnite's spy-themed Season 2, both Modern Warfare and GTA V have been firmly demoted, and Fortnite's back at no. 1.

Here is the top 40 Xbox Gameplay Chart for the week ending 23 February 2020.

Sea of Thieves has hopped back up a few places to no. 23, thanks to its new content update, which comes with six new Tome-related achievements. The content update, Crews of Rage, has apparently also made it easier to unlock 24 other achievements related to the Tomes introduced with other content updates.

Further down, Call of Cthulhu has made its first appearance in the chart at no. 32. The creepy, Lovecraftian RPG was added to Xbox Games with Gold a few weeks ago, and is available until March 15th. Our other new entries this week are Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which previously held one of the records for the longest time a single-player title lasted on our chart. Fallout 4 has also reappeared, as has Brawlhalla. On the flip side, the titles which have this week vanished from the chart are The Witcher 3, TT Isle of Man, Mortal Kombat 11, and the Bleeding Edge Alpha.

Looking ahead, we've got a number of games arriving into Xbox Game Pass. Ninja Gaiden II has already arrived onto the service, with Kingdom Hearts III, Two Point Hospital, Wasteland Remastered, Yakuza 0, and The Jackbox Party Pack 3 coming later this week. GTA V's recent top spot position is proof of the power of Xbox Game Pass, and several of these upcoming titles are more than capable of making a dent in our Xbox Gameplay Chart. We'll be back next week to let you know how things stand.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
