Activision may be taking legal action to track down Modern Warfare's Battle Royale leakers

Activision Blizzard might be taking some legal action to go after folks who leaked details of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's anticipated Battle Royale mode – which still has neither a date nor a full reveal, but is almost certainly coming next month.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season Two

According to TorrentFreak and later reported by GI.biz, Activision filed a subpoena to Reddit under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) – to specifically root out a Redditor named Assyrian241O, who according to TorrentFreak originally posted images of the purported Battle Royale mode that have since disappeared.

This follows a takedown of TheGamingRevolution's video, a leak showing various details of the "Warzone" mode. It appeared that players were able to glitch out of Modern Warfare's Season Two menus for a short time into this Warzone mode, and it's speculated that this led to this YouTuber and other leakers to distribute images and video.

It's hard to say whether further legal action will occur or even be possible, depending on how the leakers came by this information and how a judge would view the redistribution of content that, by the sounds of it, may have been accidentally publically available for some short amount of time. Of course, it's possible that Assyrian241O obtained their screenshot through more nefarious, NDA-breaking means. It's worth noting that we also don't know how TorrentFreak came by the subpoena documents.

We haven't yet heard from Reddit on this issue, nor have we seen an official statement from Activision. We'll let you know if we hear more. In the meantime, the latest Modern Warfare update introduces a new infantry-based Ground War playlist, and we'll see another double XP event this weekend.
