Control leads the list of this year's BAFTA Games Awards Nominees

By Heidi Nicholas,
Heading the list of this year's nominees for the 2020 British Academy Games Awards is Remedy Entertainment's third person shooter Control, with 11 nominations to its name. Outer Wilds, Untitled Goose Game, and Life is Strange 2 also garnered a fair number of nominations each.

Control's dev team has been nominated for the categories of Animation, Artistic Achievement, Audio Achievement, Game Design, Music, Narrative, Original Property, Technical Achievement, and Best Game. Actor Martti Suosalo has also been nominated for "Performer in a Supporting Role" for Ahti the Janitor, whilst Courtney Hope has been nominated for "Performer in a Leading Role" for her work as the game's protagonist, Jesse Faden. Control was one of those titles which had everyone talking — it seemed to fly under the radar at first, but then reviewed extremely well, and now seems to be raking in the rewards of its success.

The open-world action adventure Outer Wilds — not to be confused with Outer Worlds — has also been nominated for Best Game, along with Game Design, Music, Narrative, and Original Property. Everybody's favourite goose is also doing well for itself, with Untitled Goose Game being nominated for Best Game, Original Property, Family, and Audio Achievement.

Modern Warfare scooped itself five nominations, including Animation, Audio Achievement, Multiplayer, Technical Achievement, and Performer in a Leading Role for Barry Sloane's role as Captain Price. It's up against Apex Legends for the Multiplayer award, which is itself competing against Fortnite, among others, for Evolving Game.

Life is Strange 2 also scored itself five nominations, with episodes 2-5 earning it a nomination for Game Beyond Entertainment, Narrative, and Performer in a Leading Role for Gonzalo Martin's work as Sean Diaz. It's also been nominated for two Performer in a Supporting Role awards, for Jolene Anderson as Karen Reynolds, and Sarah Bartholomew as Cassidy. Action adventurer Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, meanwhile, received four nominations: Animation, Best Game, Game Design, and Technical Achievement.

If you want to see the whole list of 2020 nominees, you can do so here. This year's 2020 British Academy Games Awards takes place on Thursday 2nd April. We'll keep you up to date with everything that happens then.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
