Next Week on Xbox: Xbox Game Studios ramps up with Ori 2 and another Bleeding Edge beta

By Sam Quirke,
Next week on Xbox is looking a little more active than the last couple of weeks, with the arrival of a long awaited sequel, a couple of cute looking indies and another chance for Ninja Theory to impress with their upcoming multiplayer brawler thanks to a new beta.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps

Ori and the Will of the Wisps Achievements: 37 achievements
Release date: March 11th

One of the generation's most beloved Metroidvanias returns in a promising sequel – one that Heidi loved in her Ori and the Will of the Wisps hands-on. Make sure to check out that achievement list, which features more than a few challenges. While some will be familiar from the first game – finishing the game without dying, for example – there are also new feats to perform, like beating developer ghost runs in the sequel's new speed trials. Ori 2 will join the Xbox Game Pass games list from launch and as a Play Anywhere title, will also be on Xbox Game Pass for PC.

It's a cutesy, oddball puzzle-platformer featuring co-op, seemingly about making people happy but also uncovering sinister government conspiracies. If that's your cup of tea, it'll be coming to Xbox Game Pass on console and PC – though it's not clear if the latter will have achievements or not just yet.

Hidden Through Time

Hidden Through Time Achievements: 19 achievements
Release dates: March 12th, March 11th in Australia

Hidden Through Time is clearly aiming to be the Where's Waldo game you always wanted to nab achievements in, and we're here for it – especially the fact that there's a full editor so you can challenge your friends. You'll have to complete 50 Online Maps for the game's Online Search Engine achievement – which, we're assuming, means wading into the creations of fellow players in the cloud. If there's an easy way to search for a specific map, we're placing a bet: There will be an achievement-focused easy map put up by someone in this community, within three minutes of the game's launch.

Neon City Riders Achievements: 24 achievements
Release date: March 12th

A top-down action-adventure game set in a grimy cyberpunk world, Neon City Riders sees players take on several gangs of super-powered villains in a bid to free their family and the city itself. It looks like there's two different endings among that achievement list, so here's hoping there's a good save point near the finish to switch up our choices.

Bleeding Edge Beta

Bleeding Edge Achievements: Not yet revealed, though we briefly had a strange placeholder set...
Release date: March 13th

Ninja Theory's unusual multiplayer brawler has certainly gotten the attention of Sean, who thinks this has the chance to be a big hit in his Bleeding Edge preview – provided that people can get over the fact that it's really not Overwatch. Next week's Beta is another chance for Ninja Theory to prove that their unexpected multiplayer diversion is worth a look ahead of their hotly anticipated sequel to Hellblade. The Beta is running from March 13th until March 16th. We don't know what the achievements are like yet – we received a strange placeholder set during the first Beta, but they weren't unlockable and it looks like they have since been removed.

Mecho Tales

Mecho Tales Achievements: 11 achievements
Release date: March 13th

This run-and-gun platformer originally released on PS4 and Vita back in 2017, and is finally making its way to Xbox. It's going to be a Play Anywhere title and it features 4-player local multiplayer. Generally speaking it has pretty poor reviews, but maybe the achievement list will be simple enough to make it worth a quick completion.

Ritual Crown of Horns

Ritual Crown of Horns Achievements: 19 achievements
Release dates: March 13th, March 12th in Australia

This West-punk top-down twin-stick shooter shares some conceptual elements with the upcoming West of Dead, minus Ron Perlman. It also looks a little more frantic, with demons rushing at the player in hordes. Reviews have been mixed for the game's Steam and Switch versions. The achievement list could be a bit of a grind, too – you'll have to hang around for a lot of NPC conversations and complete 40 in-game challenges, and pick up a bunch of collectibles along the way.

Ritual: Crown of Horns is a skill based game, where split-second decisions and planning on the go are more powerful than button mashing and throwing yourself mindlessly at enemies.

That's it for next week so far – are you planning to pick anything up? Let us know in the comments!
