The Doom 64 port includes a new chapter that adds to the series' lore

By Sean Carey,
Doom 64 was first released back on the Nintendo 64 way back in 1997 and after 23 years, the game is finally being ported over to current-gen consoles and PCs. Updated graphics are to be expected, but the team at Nightdive Studios has also revealed that the game will be getting a new chapter.

In a recent interview with US Gamer, Nightdive Studios' senior developer, James Haley revealed that a new chapter would be playable in the port that adds to the series' lore. "Persistent players will have the opportunity to unlock a new chapter in the Doomguy's saga, taking place shortly after [Doom 64's] original campaign concludes," said Haley. The Mother Demon defeated at the end of Doom 64 apparently has a sister that is pretty angry about you galavanting around and killing everything in Hell. She banishes Doomguy, but if you can find your way back and take revenge on the sibling, you'll be rewarded with some new lore. According to Haley, the lore will be something fans of both the modern and classic games will enjoy.

Doom 64 releases on the same day as Doom Eternal, March 20th. Those who pre-order Doom Eternal will receive Doom 64 as a bonus. Otherwise, the game can be purchased as a standalone when it launches.
