Call of Duty: Warzone hits over 6 million players in its first 24 hours

The free to play battle royale, Call of Duty: Warzone had over 6 million players check out the game in its first 24 hours. In comparison, Apex Legends managed to pull in 2.5 million players over the same period.

Warzone officially launched at the start of this week, and it looks like plenty of people have been enjoying the COD standalone. The Call of Duty Twitter account posted the news of the staggering player numbers last night and said, "What a day! 24 hours in and over 6 million of you have dropped into Warzone. Thank you – we're just getting started."

Industry analyst Daniel Ahmad points out that Apex Legends only reached 2.5 million players in its first 24 hours. Since then, Apex Legends has gone on to see a vast amount of players. After just a week, 25 million people were teaming up in Apex, and the game remains incredibly popular to this day. It should be pointed out that Warzone is bundled with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, so it already has a huge following of fans that are more than likely willing to check out the new battle royale mode.

It will be interesting to see if Warzone can keep the player numbers up. Live service games live and die by the amount of fresh and engaging content that's continually added. Infinity Ward's Patrick Kelly said that they would be increasing the player count in Warzone from 150 to 200 players in the future. There's also plans to add bigger squad sizes and different game modes.
