The notorious "knife run" will be easier in Resident Evil 3

By Sam Quirke,
The Resident Evil community has enjoyed the challenge of a knife-only run in various games of the series, and the producer for Resident Evil 3 remake has provided a crucial detail as to why knife runs will be a little more plausible this time around compared to Resident Evil 2.

In an interview with Game Informer, Resident Evil 3 remake producer Peter Fabiano confirmed that the player's trusty knife will be "inexhaustible", compared to the highly perishable knives found in Resident Evil 2. Arguably this made sense in the last game, where knives were intended to be last-ditch defences against a bite rather than a main weapon. However the third game's director was apparently keen to have the knife become a dependable resource when you're out of bullets and have nothing left to rely on.

It also means that the "knife run" community will be eager to see how quickly and competently they can race through the game using only a knife. Now, Game Informer claim that knife-only runs were "basically impossible" in Resident Evil 2 due to the durability issue, but the community recognises a good challenge. Even without using the infinite combat knife unlocked after finding 15 Racoon Toys, and even without using the game's assist features, players have managed the feat. Here's one particularly insane run from notable speed runner STARS Redfield, who managed to complete the game in Hardcore mode, with just a knife. In less than 75 minutes.

Resident Evil 3 Remake launches on April 3rd, 2020.
