5% of Rockstar's in-game revenue will be donated to COVID-19 relief efforts

Rockstar Games has announced that from today and continuing until the end of May, they'll be donating 5% of the revenue from purchases in GTA Online and Red Dead Online towards COVID-19 relief efforts — specifically, communities and businesses which have been impacted by the pandemic.

Rockstar's announcement comments on how local communities in locations such as North America, the UK and India, are all struggling due to the impacts of the pandemic. "Small businesses have closed their doors, and communities who rely on government-provided support that they cannot access are struggling", the statement reads. "The road ahead will be challenging, and we want to help where we can."

To that end, the funds from the donations will be used "to help local communities and businesses struggling with the impacts of COVID-19, both directly and by supporting some of the amazing organisations who are on the ground helping those affected by this crisis."

Just last month, CD Projekt Red announced that they had donated over $950,000 to stop the spread of the virus in Poland. Their donation went to Fundacja Wielka Orkiestra Swiatecznej Pomocy (WOSP), or The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (GOCC); one of Poland's biggest charities, which has a history of promoting healthcare in Poland by raising money to purchase necessary hospital equipment.

Rockstar says they'll share more information on their own efforts to support those impacted by the pandemic as those efforts progress.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
