E3 2011: Top Gun: Hard Lock Announced

Do you feel the need?

Not the need for speed, of course, everyone feels that. I'm talking about the need to play a game based on a movie that's over twenty-five years old?

Do feel the need to play a game based on a movie that was almost completely derailed by a weird, vaguely homoerotic beach volleyball scene.

Do you feel the need to pop an old Kenny Loggins' tape into your walkman and take the long, mental voyage back to when Kelly McGillis was hot? If any of these things appeals to you, may god have mercy on your soul, and it's time to get excited for Top Gun: Hard Lock!

In a press release issued at E3, 505 Games and Headstrong have announced that they are developing Top Gun: Hard Lock, a game based on the 1986 classic that took people's breath away. The game is set in the present day and features a new story line with a fresh batch of elite navy pilots who just finished Top Gun academy (no word on whose name is featured on the plaque in the ladies' room).

As can be expected the game features aerial dog-fighting at high speeds in F-14 Tomcats and other licensed planes.

Ian Howe, the Managing Director at 505 Games commented on the project with the following:

Top Gun: Hard Lock pays tribute to the brand’s heritage but will deliver the fierce, action and intense aerial combat that today’s gamers expect.
505 Games has also released a trailer for Top Gun: Hard Lock and a few initial screenshots.
