E3 2011: Zombie Apocalypse 2 Announced

By Rebecca Smith, 5 years ago
Konami has made use of E3 to announce a direct sequel to their XBLA game Zombie Apocalypse, unsurprisingly titled Zombie Apocalypse 2. Four new heroes are stranded on a remote island that is besieged by a zombie horde, which they must fend off using any weapon that they can get their hands on. Players must comb the island looking for more survivors whilst eliminating the undead to create safe zones.

The sequel retains the view "from an elevated position", with the player taking centre stage in the middle of the screen. The twin-stick shooter mechanic also returns, with players being attacked by zombies from all directions. Fortunate survivors drop extra items that are instantly added to the player's inventory.

Zombie Apocalypse 2 does introduce a new squad-based mechanism so that players can work together. Another new mechanic, the class-based system, allows players to switch weapons between themselves, as well as sharing out powers and energy to those who are most in need of them.
