Minecraft Dungeons will not feature online matchmaking

By Sean Carey,
Last week we picked up the Minecraft Dungeons achievement list. Now, Mojang has confirmed that the game will not feature online matchmaking due to the way the dungeon crawler is designed.

Minecraft Dungeons Online matchmaking

According to the game's official FAQ page, online matchmaking for multiplayer will not feature in Minecraft Dungeons. You can still play online with your friends, but playing with randoms isn't an option. The FAQ page reads, "Minecraft Dungeons is designed to be played together with your friends – either on a comfy couch or in a comfy online session." This means there are no open lobbies for players to jump into and start exploring together. This can be a little limiting for players who don't have friends interested in playing the game.

Mojang goes on to say that difficulty, enemy count and loot will scale depending on the number of players in a session, so if you are playing solo, you shouldn't be at a disadvantage. Crossplay is also coming at a later date.

Minecraft Dungeons launches on May 26th and will be available to play in Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass for PC.
