A new trailer for Beyond Blue shows off gameplay mechanics and reveals a June release date By Heidi Nicholas, 22 Apr 2020 CommentsE-Line Media's Beyond Blue is an adventure game which aims for realism and scientific accuracy with its depictions of life in our oceans. The latest trailer shows off a little more about the game mechanics, as well as announcing a release window: Beyond Blue will release during World Oceans Week, which takes place during the week of June 8th.As detailed on the game's site, Beyond Blue "takes players into the near future" to "explore the mysteries of our ocean" from the perspective of Mirai, an explorer and scientist, and her research team. They'll be using "groundbreaking technologies to see, hear, and interact with the ocean in a more meaningful way than has ever been attempted" and while the game seems to focus mostly on exploration, there'll be an "evocative narrative" as well as an "adventure that challenges the player to make high-stakes decisions".Mirai's research and exploration abilities can be seen in the trailer, as can her communication with her research team. We can also see glimpses of how the player will interact with ocean life, and the contrasting environments to be found throughout the game. We previously had a look at the game, and discussed how it aims for realism and "literal science". Beyond Blue features content from the BBC's Blue Planet II, and was developed with input from oceanographers and other experts, to ensure accuracy in the depiction of all its ocean creatures.Beyond Blue releases during World Ocean's Week: the week of June 8th.Release DateXbox One Written by Heidi NicholasHey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
