Fortnite will be an Xbox Series X launch title By Sean Carey, 13 May 2020 CommentsFortnite will be a next-gen launch title for both the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. The news was revealed during Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest.Not much is changing other than the fact that Fortnite will be leveraging the power of next-gen consoles. It's still the same old Fortnite, but performance and visuals will be improved. At the moment, Epic isn't giving too much away, but it has confirmed that Fortnite for next-gen will be built on Unreal Engine 4, and the game will be migrating to the newly announced Unreal Engine 5 in mid-2021. A new gameplay tech demo showcasing Unreal Engine 5 running on the PlayStation 5 has been uploaded via a blog post on the Unreal Engine website.Epic has also said that it plans to support cross-progression between console generations and platforms, so any skins or items unlocked will be carried over. Cross-play will also be supported across all platforms, both new and old. Support will continue for all existing platforms.Yesterday, remastered versions of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 were announced during the Summer Game Fest stream.
