Star Wars: Squadrons gameplay trailer shows off some epic space dogfighting action

By Sean Carey,
We've been given our first look at some Star Wars: Squadrons gameplay thanks to EA Play Live. The trailer also details the different ships, customisation options and different gameplay modes.

The gameplay trailer gave us a brief overview of the game's story and showed us a bunch of that sweet first-person space dogfighting. The single-player campaign takes place after the Battle of Endor. Players will take on the role of two different pilots: one who flies for the Republic's Vanguard Squadron and the other for the Galactic Empire's Titan Squadron.

The game will be experienced through the cockpit of eight different ships. Players will need to pay attention to the instruments found in the cockpit, as they provide feedback on things like power management, shields and weapons.

Starfighters and the pilots are both customisable and can also be modified. The game will feature a progression system with rank rewards, including weapons, engines, shields and cosmetics. There are over fifty different ship components that can alter how a ship flies and fights. Star Wars: Squadrons will also feature no microtransactions.

The trailer also detailed the game's multiplayer modes. Dogfight Mode is a 5v5 battle where players will need to work as a team and use components such as tractor beams, turrets and mines to take out the enemy. Fleet Battles is Star Wars: Squadrons signature mode. Fleet Battles pit you and four others against AI or other players in multi-phase conflicts.

Star Wars: Squadrons launches on Xbox One PS4, PC and Steam on October 2nd. The game will also support crossplay between all three platforms.
