Halo Infinite campaign gameplay revealed during Xbox Games Showcase

By Sean Carey,
The Xbox Games Showcase kicked off with a big one. We finally got our first look at some Halo Infinite gameplay. During the live stream, we were treated to a nine-minute gameplay trailer taken directly from the game's campaign.

The campaign demo takes place several hours into the story according to 343 Industries studio head, Chris Lee. After finding the Master Chief floating in space, the situation has "gone from bad to worse" with the Chief and his pilot being pursued by the Banished. A new Brute war chief, by the name of Escharum, has taken control of a Halo Ring.

Halo Infinite will be much more open than previous entries into the Halo series, and grants players more freedom than ever before. Lee says "The scale of the environment accessible to players is several times larger than that of the last two Halo games combined." In the demo, the Master Chief makes use of two new pieces of equipment, a grappling hook and portable shield. "The “Drop Wall” is a fast deploying cover that can be used to fend off enemy fire or even deflect a grenade as we saw in the demo. The “Grappleshot” opens up new traversal options while also providing new ways to engage enemies," says Lee.

Halo Infinite is set to be an Xbox Series X launch title when the console releases later this year during the Holiday season. The game will also come to Windows 10, Steam and can be played in Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass for PC.
