Bethesda has confirmed that The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited and Doom Eternal are getting free next-gen upgrades: if you've bought either game, you can upgrade to the Xbox Series X version for no extra cost. Bethesda's teams are also working on backwards compatibility for both titles.
Bethesda further announced that "while we don’t have any news to share just yet on our remaining catalogue of titles, we can confirm we are committed to offer free upgrades for current generation console owners of existing Bethesda titles we bring forward into the next generation of consoles."
Bethesda's announcement continued, adding, "Additionally, our teams are working hard to ensure both titles will support backwards compatibility when the new consoles launch. We’ll have more information to share in the coming weeks and months about The Elder Scrolls Online and DOOM Eternal on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 including expected release windows and a list of enhancements."
The ESO team elaborated on this, saying, "if you are a PS4 or Xbox One player, you can continue playing with your same accounts via backward compatibility on your respective next-gen consoles without interruption or loss of progress--same characters, servers, everything!"
There's a number of other titles which are offering free next-gen upgrades through Xbox's Smart Delivery service, including Cyberpunk 2077, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Halo Infinite, Destiny 2, and DiRT 5. Check our full list of games that use Smart Delivery for more info.
