Sci-fi thriller The Invincible comes to Xbox Series X in 2021

Starward Industries has announced The Invincible, a first-person single-player sci-fi atompunk thriller "set in a retro-future timeline," and coming to Xbox Series X, PS5, and PC next year.

The Invincible

That seems like a lot of hyphenation and a lot to fit in one game, but the developers have shared more on The Invincible's Steam page. "Waking up as a space scientist on a hostile planet, you embark on a mysterious mission to find the missing crew of your spaceship. Survival is a matter of your correct choices, taken whilst uncovering the secrets of the planet, bigger than anyone thought."

That hostile planet is Regis III. You'd been taking part in an "interstellar scientific expedition," but are now faced with two tasks: survival and rescue. Your crew members are missing, the planet is "unwelcoming," and you have to find the one and explore the other with some "advanced" space stuff like drones and robots. "Soon you’ll discover that Regis III holds terrifying secrets which are uncovered while you’re piecing together the fate of your crew. And as you delve deeper into the mystery, you realise that perhaps you are not alone, and that some places like this planet are better left untouched. But it’s too late to turn back."

Your choices, skills and even relationships will influence the game's story, which the devs say is "inspired by Stanislaw Lem’s seminal sci-fi cult classic of the same name," while the atompunk setting is "reminiscent of the space race."

The Invincible launches in 2021. You can check out a music preview for the game below.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
