Torchlight III now has an October release date

By Heidi Nicholas,
Torchlight III now has an October release date, along with a full breakdown of gameplay features, and details as to which exclusive Fairy pet you'll get.

Torchlight III

Yep, you read that right: each version of Torchlight III gets its own exclusive Fairy pet. Xbox players will get the Verdant Glittersprite, and, just in case you're wondering who got what: Steam players get the Violet Glittersprite, PS4 players get the Azure Glittersprite, and Switch players get the Ashen Glittersprite.

Torchlight III has had a bit of a transformation. It was announced two years ago, but just this year Echtra Games confirmed the game had been renamed Torchlight III, and that this came alongside a change in plans for the game. The latest announcement post now details the game's features in full. It will "feature all of Torchlight’s signature mechanics, including satisfying hack-and-slash combat, a charming and vibrant world, online 4-player cooperative multiplayer and offline single-player, and the beloved pet system that captured the hearts of ARPG fans." There's also new features including three acts, Relic subclasses, customizable forts, the "challenging end-game experience 'Fazeer Shah’s Dun-Djinn'", the "Contracts" multi-tiered progression system "that lets players earn Fame and unlock elite items," and more.

Torchlight III is set 100 years after Torchlight II, when the Ember Empire is now in danger from the Netherim. "To save Novastraia, Torchlight III players will need to gather their wits and brave the frontier in search of fame, glory and new adventures to become the legends the world needs them to be." You'll be exploring the Frontier, gathering resources, crafting, heading to town, building, renovating, and upgrading forts, including adding monuments of power and pet stables — which already sounds amazing. Plus, you can apparently send them to sell items in town, which is just adorable.

You'll pick one of the five Relics: Bane, which lets you call spiders and poison to your aid, Blood Drinker, which heals you and saps enemies, Coldheart, which freezes enemies, Electrode, which seems to fry them, and Flaming Destroyer, which seems to do exactly what it says on the tin. There's also four hero classes, including the Dusk Mage with light and dark energy, the Forged, a robot skilled with explosions and heat, the Railmaster, a "locomotive savvy powerhouse" armed with a battle train, and the Sharpshooter, with their ranged weapons and trinkets.

Torchlight III is out on October 13th.
