Cyberpunk 2077 has gone gold, CD Projekt Red confirms

By Heidi Nicholas,
It feels like Cyberpunk 2077 has been on the distant horizon forever, but CD Projekt Red has just confirmed the game has gone gold, ahead of its launch on November 19th.

Going gold usually means when a master copy of the game has been made, but it's always a good sign that a game is ready for mass production and on track for release. Cyberpunk 2077 has been a highly anticipated upcoming game ever since it was announced several years ago, and the huge success of The Witcher 3 added to the hype around Cyberpunk 2077, which itself emerged as a complex game featuring the sort of moral ambiguity and level of detail which CDPR brought to the (game) world of The Witcher.

However, CDPR recently came under fire after reports emerged that it was enforcing six-day working weeks for employees in the lead-up to Cyberpunk's launch, especially as similar events during development on The Witcher 3 caused CD Projekt Red's co-founder Marcin Iwinski to tell Kotaku that the company would be implementing a "non-obligatory crunch policy" and be "more humane" in its treatment of its employees. After the reports about the Cyberpunk 2077 crunch, CD Projekt Red studio head Adam Badowski released a statement to say that "everyone is well compensated for every extra hour they put in," that "the majority of the team understands that push," and that "this is one of the hardest decisions" he's had to make.

We've had wave upon wave of Cyberpunk 2077 details from Night City Wire episodes and info drops from CDPR (check our Cyberpunk 2077 round-up for more), and the devs are stepping up the hype ahead of launch with new adverts featuring Keanu Reeves. Cyberpunk 2077 finally launches in a little over a month, on November 19th.

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world, action-adventure story set in Night City, a megalopolis obsessed with power, glamour and body modification. You play as V, a mercenary outlaw going after a one-of-a-kind implant that is the key to immortality. You can customize your character’s cyberware, skillset and playstyle, and explore a vast city where the choices you make shape the story and the world around you.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
