Xbox Game Studios has had a record-breaking year according to the head of Xbox games marketing, Aaron Greenberg. In a post over on Xbox Wire, Greenberg says that a record 15 first-party games (which includes various Halo PC ports and The Bard's Tale remaster) will have launched this year once Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition releases on October 15th.

Greenberg has also shared a few stats and snippets of information to do with Xbox and Microsoft's year so far. Xbox players have spent a crazy 1.66 billion hours in first-party titles, which is the most ever year-to-date. Microsoft Flight Simulator was received well by critics and earned a 92 Metacritic score, while Ori and the Will of the Wisps was the highest-rated Xbox game launched this year with a score of 90. Greenberg also said that Grounded saw over one million players shortly after release and that Sea of Thieves crossed the 15 million player mark.

"It's been a tremendous year so far, and it's going to get even better with the launch of Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on November 10th," says Greenberg. "Across four generations and thousands of games playable this holiday, this will be the largest launch lineup in the history of gaming." Greenberg continues by saying that we can expect gameplay footage for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S optimized games in the run-up to launch.
