Spellbreak's Prologue: The Gathering Storm launches next week with a 9v9 Clash Mode

By Heidi Nicholas,
Prologue: The Gathering Storm will bring a chapter system, a 9v9 Clash mode, new outfits, talents, consumables, and more to Spellbreak when it launches next week on October 22nd.

The devs had tucked this Prologue announcement at the end of a recent accolades trailer for the game, with just a quick glimpse to say it was on the way. Spellbreak launched as a free-to-play fantasy game last month, and although it appeared a few times in our Xbox Gameplay Chart, our latest Xbox Gameplay Chart shows it to have fallen out of the top 40, suggesting players are quickly moving on to something else. Developer Proletariat is keeping Prologue details under wraps for now, but we could see players heading back to Spellbreak if this update manages to boost the game with enough new content.

It's not clear yet what Proletariat means by a chapter system — some players think it could be story content or a battle pass system — and we'll be sure to update you when we learn more. In the meantime, we included Spellbreak in our list of the best free Xbox One games: 2020 edition, so don't forget to check there if you're looking for more free-to-play inspiration.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
