King Arthur: Knight's Tale is a tactical RPG planned to launch on Xbox Series X|S

By Heidi Nicholas,
King Arthur: Knight's Tale has been revealed as a tactical RPG hybrid set in an "Arthurian dark fantasy world." It's been announced for PC with Xbox Series X|S and PS5 versions to follow, and developers NeocoreGames have confirmed the Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign is now open. The game is scheduled to launch in Q1 2021, if all goes well with its Kickstarter goal. Check out the trailer below.

At the time of writing, King Arthur: Knight's Tale has already met part of its goal, having raised £26,587 of £115,000, which it has to reach by November 12th 2020. "Game development can be tricky with plenty of unforeseeable problems to be solved, and backers have every right to be wary of hollow promises," the game's Kickstarter campaign reads. "However, King Arthur: Knight's Tale isn't just a concept - it is a playable game, in full production at NeocoreGames, funded by the studio itself."

King Arthur: Knight's Tale has you play as Sir Mordred, King Arthur's nemesis. NeocoreGames says, "you killed King Arthur, but with his dying breath, he struck you down. You both died – and yet, you both live. The Lady of the Lake, the ruler of the mystical island of Avalon brought you back to end a true nightmare. She wants you to go on a knightly quest. She wants you to finish what you have begun. Kill King Arthur — or whatever he has become after she took his dying vessel to Avalon."

The game is described as "a unique hybrid between turn-based tactical games and traditional, character-centric RPGs," with a big focus on moral choices. You can choose from over 30 heroes of five classes — your Knights of the Round Table — and level them up as you go. You can treat their injuries, curses, and diseases at the Round Table, but this isn't an instant fix, and when they die, it's permanent. You will also need to manage their loyalties, granting favours and keeping an eye on each, in case they leave your party and become an enemy.

King Arthur: Knight's Tale

King Arthur is trapped in Avalon and causing Britannia to become a twisted place. You will be tasked with watching over the people of the realm and rebuilding Camelot, while also tracking your own Morality Chart as it twists between Tyranny, Righteousness, Christianity, and the Old Faith. Once you've finished the campaign, you unlock endgame content such as boss fights, quests, and the mission to defeat "monstrous god-king" Balor. There are over 50 points of interest on the Adventure Map, 20 story missions, more side quests, seven enemy factions, over 50 enemy types, and 10 boss fights.

King Arthur: Knight’s Tale is planned to launch for PC in Q1 2021, with Xbox Series X|S versions to follow, if all goes well with the Kickstarter campaign. Does King Arthur: Knight’s Tale look like your kind of thing? Let us know in the comments!

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
