Update: Gears POP! servers to close in April 2021, all achievements to be discontinued

By Sean Carey,
Update: Over on the Gears POP! support website, Mediatonic says that any purchases made within the last 90 days (effective October 28th, 2020) will automatically be refunded. "Refunds will be issued for purchase transactions which occurred between July 30th, 2020 – October 28th, 2020. Once initiated, refunds may take a few weeks to be processed."

Original Story: Mediatonic has announced that servers for free-to-play Gears POP! will close on April 26th, 2021. This means that the game's entire achievement list will be discontinued after this date.

The server shut down was announced via an in-game notification that pops up when you load into the game. The notification reads, "Thank you, Gears! Together we have taken on countless waves of Horde and vanquished foes on the versus battlefield but sadly Gears POP! is closing on April 26th, 2021." Some of the game's more popular events will be making a comeback, and Bounty rewards will be increased along with drop rates for Legendary Pins. In-app purchases have also been disabled.

Gears POP! launched back in August 2019 and was pretty popular for a while. Mediatonic has not stated a reason for the server shutdown, but it's probably down to a decline in player numbers. As with most free-to-play games, the achievement list is a pretty tough one to crack. Out of the 68,733 TA users with the game on their tag, only 19 have managed to unlock every achievement. If you want to add Gears POP! to your list of completed games, be prepared for an enormous grind. According to estimates, it will take you well over 200 hours to pop all of the game's achievements.

Servers for Gears POP! will close on April 26th, 2021.

Thanks to FinalKaos for the news tip.
