Take-Two in talks to acquire Codemasters for £740 million

By Brittany Vincent,
Dirt publisher Codemasters is currently in discussions with Take-Two regarding a possible acquisition.

The company confirmed as much via press release, stating that it had entered a non-binding proposal to acquire Codemasters as a conditional offer. Codemasters noted that if Take-Two ended up making its bid official, its own board would recommend that shareholders move to accept the offer.

Speaking to VGC in a statement, Take-Two acknowledged that it believed the union of both companies would "bring together two world-class interactive entertainment portfolios, with a highly complementary fit between 2K and Codemasters in the racing genre."

The statement continued, noting that Take-Two believed it would "bring benefits" to Codemasters by "leveraging Take-Two global distribution and 2K’s core operating expertise in publishing, including, live operations, analytics, product development, and brand and performance marketing."

The Times journalist Tom Howard took to Twitter to confirm Codemasters' statement as well.

Take-Two currently owns both the Rockstar and 2K Games labels in addition to 2K Sports. Codemaster's latest release is Dirt 5, which is set to debut on Xbox Series X and Series on November 10th. It's the fourteenth overall title in the Colin McRae Rally series and the eighth title in the Dirt series.
