Vote now for December 2020's TA Playlist game

By Sean Carey,
As you start to explore the city of Columbia, and most importantly the toilets of Columbia, in November’s TA Playlist game, Bioshock Infinite, we must once again rely on your vote to decide upon the TA Playlist game for December.

December is traditionally the month that the Playlist showcases some of the best/most played games to have been released this year. This year is no exception, with a range of games that are well-rated here on TA or played by many! From next year, we’ll begin to include games from the next generation of Xbox.

Your choices for December's TA Playlist game are as follows:

Doom Eternal

Doom Eternal Story

Doom Eternal is the first of this month's offerings. Developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks, Doom Eternal is a first-person shooter game and serves as a sequel to 2016's Doom.

As before, you play as the Doom Slayer (or Doomguy). You are once again on a mission to end Hell's consumption of Earth and foil the alien Maykrs' plans to exterminate humanity. Eternal features more demon types to kill than its predecessor but retains the fast-paced, aggressive action and gore that Doom is famous for.

Doom Eternal holds an impressive 4.43 out of 5.00 rating here on TA. It’s been started by just under 81,000 users on-site, with only 1,500 having completed the game. and is estimated to take 25-30 hours to complete (with 5-6 hours more including DLC)

Doom Eternal is currently a part of Xbox Game Pass.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps

Ori and the Will of the Wisps

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a platformer/Metroidvania game developed by Moon Studios and published by Xbox Game Studios.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a direct sequel to the first game, Ori and the Blind Forest. It maintains the narrative continuity of the first game but features a new melee combat system and a visual overhaul. You reprise your role as the little spirit Ori, as you embark on a new journey to find Ku, an injured baby owl who you get separated from in a storm. You get to explore a vast, exotic world where you’ll encounter towering enemies and challenging puzzles on your quest to unravel Ori’s destiny.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps holds an equally as impressive 4.56 out of 5.00 rating here on TA. It’ll take multiple playthroughs to get some of the harder achievements, such as finishing the game with no deaths. Just over 68,000 of you have played it so far, with only 1% of that number who have completed it.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is currently a part of Xbox Game Pass.

Carrion ~ TitledHeroArt

Carrion is a Metroidvania game, developed by Phobia Game Studio and published by Devolver Digital.

Carrion is an excellent example of a reverse-horror game. You play as an unnamed tentacled creature, which is only trying to escape the facility it is contained within. To escape, you must stalk, possess, control, obliterate and devour all the humans in your path.

As you progress along the path, you find additional bits of your genetic material, allowing you to evolve, reaching an even greater size and giving you access to more defensive and offensive abilities. Devour everything in your path and solve some clever puzzles in order to escape.

Carrion is also well rated by the TA community, with an average score of 4.00 out of 5.00. Just under 58,000 of you have Carrion on your tags, with around 15% of you had completed it. It takes roughly six to eight hours to complete.

Carrion is currently a part of Xbox Game Pass.

Minecraft Dungeons

Minecraft Dungeons review

Minecraft Dungeons is the final game selection rounding out the Playlist for this year.

Minecraft Dungeons is a role-playing/dungeon crawling game developed by the combined effort of Mojang Studios, Double Eleven, and Xbox Game Studios, the latter of which also published the game.

Set in the same world as the main Minecraft games, the game has a relatively straightforward premise. An Illager named Archie was driven away by his people. While searching for a new home, he was forced to leave every village he found due to Villagers not allowing him to live with them. One day, Archie stumbled upon a powerful artefact known as the 'Orb of Dominance' which granted him magic powers but also corrupted him. Now known as the "Arch-Illager", he sought vengeance on all those who wronged him and subjugated numerous villages with his new army. You take on the role of a series of heroes who embark on a quest to defeat the Arch-Illager while liberating villages, fighting monsters, and ultimately defeating the Arch-Illager.

Minecraft Dungeons currently has a rating of 3.95 out of 5.00 here on TA and has an estimated completion time of 15-20 hours, with an additional two to fours hours in DLC. Just over 156,000 people have it on their tag, with a mere 9% having completed it.

This is our first full year running the TA playlist after Mark (N0T PENNYS B0AT) stepped down around this time last year.
The team currently consists of three people, Miles ManicMetalhead), Chewie (ChewieOnIce) and Austin (Reborn Insanity).
We hope you’ve liked the first year of game selections, which will continue into next year. Let us know if you have any game or theme suggestions, and whether you’ve enjoyed the games that have been chosen so far!
Which game should the community play for TA Playlist in December 2020?
  • Doom Eternal
  • Ori and the Will of the Wisps
  • Carrion
  • Minecraft Dungeons
