Gears 5 Operation 5: Hollow Storm adds new PvP and PvE achievements

By Sean Carey,
The next Operation in Gears 5 kicks off today, and with it comes a brand-spanking-new list of achievements. Operation 5: Hollow Storm adds 13 achievements to the game worth a total of 80 Gamerscore.

Operation 5: Hollow Storm brings with it five new maps, seven new characters, and a bunch of new rewards. The Coalition has also made changes to Multiplayer in Gears 5. In PvE, characters and classes have now been "decoupled," meaning you can now pick your class and whatever character you want to play as. Naturally, achievements relating to the new class system have been added. There's a huge list of changes and tuning update to each class that you can read over on the Gears 5 website.

The Coalition has also added some PvP achievements with Operation 5 and made changes to the Ranked system. Those who quit a Ranked match early will now be "required to complete (and perform in) a number of Quickplay Versus matches before they’re able to compete in Ranked matches again." The Coalition says the more times a player quits a match, the more Quickplay games they'll have to complete until they're able to play in Ranked matches again. Players will also need to achieve a minimum amount of points and finish the match for the Quickplay match to count. "We feel this is a much clearer and effective solution to deal with quitters and believe it will discourage negative behaviour while still allowing people to play Gears 5."

After listening to player feedback, The Coalition says it's making changes to Gears Points. The following bonuses will now be awarded for all Ranked team-based matches (bonuses won’t impact Ranked FFA):
  • Top Player Bonus: The top player on both teams will receive a 250 GP bonus at the end of each match.
  • Match Win Bonus: All players on the winning team will now be awarded 500 GP.
  • Round Win Bonus: For each round a player wins in a best of three game type they will be awarded an additional 500 points per round win. For each round a player wins in a best of 13 game type (e.g. 2v2) they will be awarded an additional 150 points per round win.
  • Solo Player Bonus: Players that solo queue will be awarded a bonus of 15% of the GP they earned in the match regardless of the match result.
For more on the PvP changes, check out the Gears 5 website.

There's also a bunch of bug fixes and quality of life improvements that you can read about in the Operation 5: Hollow Storm patch notes. The update is available to download now and should be going live shortly.

There are 13 achievements worth a total of 80 Gamerscore, none of which are secret.
