Assassin's Creed Valhalla was the biggest game launch of the Assassin's Creed series

By Heidi Nicholas,
Following on from the news that Assassin's Creed Valhalla saw twice as many active players on launch day than Odyssey, Ubisoft has now revealed that Assassin's Creed Valhalla was actually the biggest game launch of the AC series entirely, having "sold through more units in its first week than any other Assassin's Creed game."

Not only was it the biggest launch of the series, but Ubisoft also announced that Valhalla has become the biggest PC launch for AC too. “We are truly delighted by the enthusiastic response from players and want to thank the fans for their incredible support," says Julien Laferrière, a producer on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. "Delivering this game amid a global pandemic was a true tour de force by our teams and it’s fantastic to see players enjoying the game so much... Launch is only the beginning and we have robust content plans for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla that will keep players immersed in their epic Viking saga for a long time to come.” We know a fair bit of what this post-launch content will be already. Ubisoft detailed the post-launch and Season Pass content for Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and it includes two chunky expansions, a bonus Season Pass mission, and free content for all players, with the first four free bits arriving in the game's first year. The first expansion, meanwhile, arrives in Spring 2021 and ferries us over to Ireland to investigate the Children of Danu druid cult, while The Siege of Paris follows in early summer of 2021 and takes us to Francia.

Ubisoft also shared some player stats alongside the news of Valhalla's successful launch. Already, players have travelled over 4 million kilometres, unlocked over 55 million buildings for their settlements, and won over 3.5 million games of Orlog, while over 1.8 million players have won at least one drinking game. There will soon be still more to do, as the free content kicks off at the end of this year with the Yule Festival at Eivor's settlement, followed by more free content scattered over 2021 with festivals, events, new progression, skills, gear, adventures, gameplay, and game modes.

Valhalla has been out for over a week, and Ubisoft's announcement about the game's successful launch is a pretty great way to finish that week off. We've also seen Valhalla storming into our latest Xbox Gameplay Chart, and it will be interesting to see how it fares next week. What's been your favourite part of Valhalla and Viking life so far?
