Sea of Thieves' Joe Neate says 2021 "will definitely be the biggest year yet"

By Heidi Nicholas,
Sea of Thieves' executive producer Joe Neate says that today's update is on the smaller side, but only because there are some "significant changes" and "major news" on the way: "Sea of Thieves isn't slowing down any time soon."

November's update went live today, November 18th. According to the release notes it's smaller than usual, while Neate adds that it's "more of a quality of life update, largely focused on bug fixes and improving the core Sea of Thieves experience for all players." The update fixes a range of issues and expands the Voyages introduced with Vaults of the Ancients to allow for a Treasure Vault Voyage through The Devil's Roar. Fate of the Damned Challenges, Voyages, and Rewards are also now available to everyone until December 9th, while the last weekend of November will be a Gold & Glory weekend with double gold and reputation. You can get boosted Stronghold rewards by taking on a Skeleton Fort or the Fort of the Damned on any Friday, while the daily Stronghold Sharefest will also continue.

However, this update is only on the lighter side because Rare has its sights set on even bigger things for Sea of Thieves. Neate says the devs are "hard at work behind the scenes on some significant changes that will lead us into 2021, with plans in motion for how we continue supporting the game and some major news still to come," adding, "Sea of Thieves isn’t slowing down any time soon." He also said on Twitter: "lots to come in 2021. Will definitely be the biggest year yet."

We'll hear more about the future of Sea of Thieves and its "significant and exciting changes" in a "special edition" of Sea of Thieves News sometime in the next few weeks. We'll keep you posted. In the meantime, what are you most hoping to see in Sea of Thieves in the future?
