Far Cry 6 release date leaked by Microsoft Store

By Sean Carey,
According to the Microsoft Store, Far Cry 6 will now launch on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on May 25th, 2021.

Far Cry 6 was originally supposed to launch on February 18th, 2021, but Ubisoft delayed the game due to "production challenges" caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In Ubisoft's latest earnings reports, the publisher revealed that both Far Cry 6 and Rainbow Six Quarantine would launch sometime between April 2021 and September 2021, but according to the updated Microsoft Store listing, Far Cry 6 has only been delayed by about three months.

It's possible that this date could be a placeholder and it might change in the future. However, the Microsoft Store is known for leaking information early and did recently reveal the correct release date for Immortals Fenyx Rising.

Far Cry 6 is set in the fictional country of Yara, "a tropical paradise frozen in time" that Ubisoft describes as "the most expansive Far Cry playground to date." Actor Giancarlo Esposito plays the villainous dictator Anton Castillo who is "intent on restoring his nation back to its former glory by any means." Ubisoft has detailed that Far Cry 6 will run at 4K/60fps on the Xbox Series X and confirmed the game will be using Smart Delivery, offering a free next-gen upgrade to all players who purchase the Xbox One version of the game.
