Hitman 3's engine can support over 300 active NPCs at once, supports 4K/60fps on Series X

Developer IO Interactive has revealed another new location players will be jetting off to with Agent 47 in Hitman 3 and has shared more about what its own in-house game engine can pull off.

In the video, Clemens Koch, community developer for IOI, walks us through what we can expect from the Glacier engine regarding next-gen enhancements and gives us a brief glimpse at the neon-lit streets of Chongqing in southwest China.

Koch says lighting and reflections have been updated with Hitman 3, and it clearly shows in the trailer — just look how shiny Agent 47's bald head is now. Water effects have also been improved, while interaction animations have been tightened to make the game feel "more fluid and responsive." That's not all. IO Interactive is continuing to raise the bar for AI in games and gives us a look at an atrium filled with NPCs. "We continue to push that envelope with more than 300 active NPC AIs at once, expanding on the possibilities in the living breathing world players come to expect from us," Koch says. IOI also confirmed that all of these new improvements will be coming to locations in both Hitman and Hitman 2, which can be imported into Hitman 3 at no additional cost for existing owners.

On next-gen consoles, Hitman 3 will support 4K/60fps and HDR.

Hitman 3 launches on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on January 20th, 2021.
