The Xbox Series X|S versions of Rainbow Six Siege arrive next week

By Brittany Vincent,
Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Siege is getting a next-gen update to bring it in line with other titles currently being revitalized for Xbox Series X.

The developer took to its official blog to line out what players can expect from the game's free upgrade when it debuts on December 1st. There will be two modes to play the game in: performance or resolution mode.

Performance mode on Xbox Series X will run at 120 fps at dynamic 4K, with occasional scaling to maintain a steady framerate. On Xbox Series S, the console will work to offer 120 fps at 1080p instead. Resolution mode will run at 60 fps at 4K on Xbox Series S, and the Series S will downsample the game from 1728p. Having options should be handy for players looking to enjoy the game no matter what type of display they have.

In addition to graphical and performance enhancements, Xbox Series X and S can utilize Quick Resume as well as cross-play. That's cross-generational play, so that means you can play together on Xbox Series X and Xbox One, which is great news for anyone looking to build up their squad. These features won't be available at launch for next-gen versions of the game, but Ubisoft is currently working to make this a reality.

"We want to make sure we are taking all necessary elements into consideration to ensure we continue providing all of you with the best technical and well-rounded experience," says Ubisoft. "This type of implementation needs to be thoroughly thought-through, and this is where we stand right now. We will be sure to update you in the future when we have more news to share."

All of this comes at no extra charge with the latest update, so if you were toying with the idea of returning to Rainbow Six Siege or even trying it for the first time, this is a great reason to take the plunge.
