Xbox Gameplay Chart: Black Ops Cold War still holds first place

By Heidi Nicholas,
Our latest Xbox Gameplay Chart shows Black Ops Cold War keeping its spot in first place for the second week running. That's a pretty big deal, considering Modern Warfare hadn't moved from the top spot for months before Black Ops Cold War came along. It hasn't fallen far, however, and is still sitting in second place, with Fortnite, GTA V, and Minecraft filling out the rest of the top five. Here is the top 40 Xbox Gameplay Chart for the week ending January 3rd, 2021.

Cyberpunk 2077 has only fallen one spot to eighth place. Since so many players had been looking for a refund for the game, it's interesting to see it's still in the top ten this week. Apex Legends is up one spot to tenth place, although we might see it jump up the chart after its Fight Night Collection Event arrives tomorrow. Assassin's Creed Valhalla is still at 14th place, despite the free seasonal event that had been running over the holidays. Although the free content doesn't seem to have boosted the game all that much, it's unlikely we'll see it fall out of the chart for a long time yet. Sea of Thieves' Festival of Giving is still underway, which could explain why the game has jumped up three spaces to 21st. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, on the other hand, has fallen six places to 24th, perhaps as players picked up new games over the holidays or turned to everything else Xbox Game Pass has to offer. Towards the bottom of the chart, NBA 2K21 has made its first appearance since launch, coming in to land at 37th, while Fallout 76 continues its downward march out of the top 40, dropping to 39th.

We're in that in-between period after all the major games which released towards the end of 2020, and our Xbox Gameplay Chart seems to be taking a bit of a breather before the next big releases start to arrive over the next few weeks. Coming up, we've got Hitman 3 and The Medium for January, followed by Little Nightmares 2 and Riders Republic in February, as well as any and all Xbox Game Pass additions arriving in the meantime. What do you think will make it into the top five next? Let us know in the comments!
