Shadow of Mordor server closure delayed, but online achievements may unlock after closure

By Sean Carey,
Back in November, WB Games announced that servers for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor - Game of the Year Edition would close, impacting some of the games' online functionality and achievements. The server closure has now been delayed until mid-January and Monolith says there's a chance that all online achievements previously thought to be discontinued may still be unlockable after the server shutdown.

Over in the Monolith discord, a developer by the username of Monolith_Mark said, "To all achievement hunters. The server shutdown was pushed out to mid-January. I don't have any more information at the moment, in case you were wondering. And yes, I'm still very optimistic (but not 100% certain until verified) that the online achievements discussed earlier will still be achievable."

When the server closure was first announced, it was originally thought that only the Repaid in Blood achievement in both games would be affected. That was until WB Games Support told a player that another two achievements (The Hunt is my Mistress and Lord of the Ring) would also become discontinued. According to Monolith_Mark, the team is trying to get a workaround in place for the Repaid in Blood achievement and are currently investigating the other two achievements to see if they'll unlock after the server closure.

Although no date has been provided for the server shut down, and it seems there might be a chance that these achievements will continue to unlock after the closure, it's probably still worth working through the potentially affected achievements now, just to be on the safe side.

Once we find out the new date of the server closure and more on the potentially affected achievements, we'll update you.
