New Site Feature: Achievement Reminder System

By Rich Stone,
There are over 50 Xbox games that have achievements that can only be won during particular days or dates. Some, such as the Remember September '44 achievement in Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway, can only be won on a single day of the year, while others, such as the Storyteller achievement in Batman: Arkham City require you to do certain in-game tasks on multiple days throughout the year.

Keeping track of when these achievements become available has long been a chore for Xbox gamers, and while our news team regularly highlights when the ones in the most popular games are about to become active, we thought it would be a great feature to offer you an achievement reminder notification that you can customize to your needs.

Achievement Reminder Notification Setting

We have added a new setting to the Game Notification section of the Notification Settings page:

The settings is called Date specific achievement reminder notification, and the available options are:
  • No notifications
  • Games in my collection
  • Games I've played
  • Achievements I don't have in games in my collection (the default)
  • Achievements I don't have in games I've played
  • Achievements I don't have in all games
  • Game by game (manually set)
  • All notifications
The default option is to send you a notification when achievements you don't have in games in your collection are about to become available, but as you can see you can tailor this completely to your needs.

You can even choose to receive the notifications on a game by game basis. If you choose Game by game (manually set), you can select the games you want notifications for on this page.

Reminders notifications are sent 3 days before the achievements go live, unless the Game Info team become aware of them within a shorter period of time, in which case they will be sent as soon as they are set up in the site:

The notifications themselves link through to the game page in question, filtered to show the upcoming achievements. You can also adjust the value for the option directly within the notification itself.

We hope this development makes it far easier for you to grab those date-related achievements!

Yo! Rich here - I was the one that created TrueAchievements back in 2008 as I felt the Xbox Gamerscore system could be improved. The site has evolved massively since then and it's now the biggest and best Xbox community on the planet! Racing games and open world shooters are my thing, but I'll give most genres a go. Except RPGs - those things are evil.
