Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 won't launch in 2021, Blizzard confirms

By Sean Carey,
Speaking during Activision's recent earnings call, Activision Blizzard's chief financial officer Dennis Durkin revealed that the company doesn't expect Overwatch 2 or Diablo IV to launch this year.

Durkin said during the call (transcription via The Motley Fool), "We expect Blizzard's net bookings to grow given the momentum in World of Warcraft and the other growth initiatives we have in the business. Our outlook does not include Diablo 4 or Overwatch 2 launching in 2021."

In a related quote, Activision Blizzard's president and chief operating officer Daniel Alegre said that he expects 2022 to be a big year for Blizzard. "Our teams are hard at work on Diablo IV, Overwatch 2 and multiple mobile titles. We have further bolstered headcount on key franchises, supporting the team's plans to follow these ambitious titles with compelling content that sustains Blizzard's communities over the long term. The pipeline is progressing really well, and we anticipate that 2022 will be a great year for Blizzard."

Both Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV were announced at BlizzCon 2019. News on both games has been relatively light since their reveals, but we'll likely hear more about the upcoming titles at BlizzCon later this month.
