Bandai Namco invests in Limbic Entertainment, two new franchises planned

By Heidi Nicholas,
Bandai Namco Entertainment has now announced that it has acquired a minority stake in Limbic Entertainment, a German development studio known for Tropico 6 and Memories of Mars. Limbic will work on two new franchises for Bandai Namco.

Bandai Namco's acquisition of this minority stake took place back in December 2020, a few months after it had acquired Reflector Entertainment, and furthers Bandai Namco's "key priority of creating and owning more IPs." The studio is made up of more than 80 employees and will be working on two new franchises — you can see over on the Limbic site that the studio is hiring for "unannounced Unreal 4 projects."

We don't have any info yet on what Bandai Namco and Limbic have planned, but Stephan Winter, Limbic CEO, says, "there was a natural fit from the moment we first met the BNEE team. This collaboration gives us the support, capabilities, and resources to continue to develop and grow our studio... We are excited for the next chapter of Limbic Entertainment and couldn’t be more thrilled to share the journey with BNEE as we work together on two fantastic new projects.” Arnaud Muller, COO of Bandai Namco, adds of Limbic that: "The seasoned teams have shown their talents in the past on the various titles they have been working on, with Tropico 6 being their latest success. They will be working on two new franchises... Limbic Entertainment fits perfectly within the strategy we set out for Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe a few years ago and allows us to keep growing the output of new IP from studios tied to BNEE.”

We'll update you when we hear what Bandai Namco might have planned.
