Gears 5 Operation 6 is now live, no new achievements will be added

By Sean Carey,
Gears 5 Operation 6 is now live, bringing with it a new map, three characters, and a bunch of new modes and changes. Sadly (or not so sadly depending on which camp you're in), unlike the past three previous Operations, Operation 6 will not be adding any new achievements.

Aside from the new map, characters, and timing changes already detailed, Gears 5 players can expect a few changes with Operation 6, including getting to grips with a new Versus game mode called Control. The Coalition says Control is a "new spin on classic ring-based modes but with some changes." The goal is to capture a sizeable objective area, but you'll need to stay inside this area to score points. Each player has their own respawn timer, meaning you'll be able to get back into the match faster. The objective is 2.5 times bigger than the usual ring in King of the Hill. Control will be available for two weeks, with Versus events switching out through the Operation.

For Horde, a new event will be kicking off with Operation 6 called Escape from Kadar. "Niles has been up to his old tricks again and has created unique enemies for you to take on in this 10-wave epic," The Coalition says. This playlist sees Locust enemies introduced into Gears 5 for the first time. Escape from Kadar will feature for two weeks.

There's a new Tour of Duty, which offers new skins, weapon sets, and more. There's also a bunch of new medals to earn with the new Operation, including medal sets for both Control and the Escape from Kadar Horde Event. You can view those along with a long list of PvP and PvE changes in the patch notes over on the Gears 5 website.

The Coalition has also confirmed to us that Gears 5 Operation 6 will not add any new achievements. While some will be disappointed with the move, others can now breathe a sigh of relief.
