Terraria reaches 35 million copies sold

By Tom West,
Terraria has hit the impressive milestone of 35 million copies sold, and positions itself in the top spot on Steam's 250 highest-rated games list, fighting off some huge competition to take the title.

Engine Software announced the news in a post on the game’s forum, along with comments from the developer. “Things are really starting to come together, and we are beyond excited for what the rest of the year has in store,” the post reads, and we'll let you know when Engine Software releases any information about Terraria’s updates through 2021.

In an age of constant game releases, from AAA titans to indie underdogs, seeing games hit milestones such as 35 million copies sold is always great to witness. Terraria has spread across most platforms since its initial release in 2011, and the numbers show that the game has been a great success. As of the end of 2020, players on PC accounted for roughly half of Terraria’s sales with 17.2 million copies sold. Mobile follows up with 9.3 million, with console just behind at 8.5 million.

Terraria has not only reached an incredible sales milestone, but also taken the top spot on Steam's 250 highest-rated games. The list is designed around user ratings and reviews, with the game receiving a score of 8.81/10 from well over 700,000 votes, beating games such as Portal 2, The Witcher 3, and Left 4 Dead 2.

If you’re wanting to find out what all of the fuss is about, Terraria is available as part of an Xbox Game Pass subscription. Currently, the game holds a TA user rating of 3.96/5, and 98,000 registered players have added it to their card. Terraria is no quick completion, seeing as only 1% of explorers have spent over 200 hours to unlock all 30 of the game’s achievements.
