Overwatch Archives 2021 event adds three achievements and new reward system

By Heidi Nicholas,
The Overwatch Archives event for 2021 has begun, adding three new achievements, new Archives missions, new cosmetics, and more. There are three achievements worth a total of 45 Gamerscore, none of which are secret.

Name Description Gamerscore
Bulletproof Barriers Complete the Bulletproof Barriers Archives challenge mission. 15
Sympathy Gains Complete the Sympathy Gains Archives challenge mission. 15
Thunderstorm Complete the Thunderstorm Archives challenge mission. 15
The Archives seasonal event runs for the next few weeks, to April 27th, with new co-op missions. Over on the Overwatch site, there are three story missions listed.

First is Uprising, where you go back seven years and "join an Overwatch strike team fighting through the streets of King's Row to quell an uprising led by Null Sector." You can play as Tracer, Torbjörn, Reinhardt, or Mercy in this story mission, while the challenge missions involve obstacles like Bulletproof Barriers, reduced health and increased damage, and lava pools. For the Retribution story mission, you can play as McCree, Moira, Genji, or Reyes as you head eight years into the past as a member of the Blackwatch strike force. The challenge missions include the new Sympathy Gains mission, where you'll find that dealing damage to enemies will cause other enemies to regain health. There's also Surgical Strike, where you have to land a critical hit to actually deal damage, and Close Quarters, where enemies can't be killed unless they're near another player. The Storm Rising story mission has you play as Tracer, Genji, Winston, or Mercy as you "pursue the devious entrepreneur Maximilien through the streets of Havana." The challenge missions are Thunderstorm, which causes any damage dealt to enemies to also affect nearby players, Blood Moon Rising, where you can only heal through damaging opponents, and Storm Raging, which causes some enemies to become enraged. The three new achievements ask you to complete the three new challenge missions: Bulletproof Barriers, Sympathy Gains, and Thunderstorm.

Alongside the Archives event is a new reward system, which has you earning stars instead of aiming to win a certain number of games. You don't have to win to earn stars, but you'll get more stars if you take on harder missions. In Week One, you'll need ten stars to win the Corredor Lucio player icon, 20 stars for the Turn Up the Heat spray, and 30 stars for the Corredor Lucio Epic skin, and you can earn double stars by playing the Uprising story mission. In Week Two, from April 13th to April 20th, you can earn double stars for playing Retribution. Ten stars are needed for the Subaquatic Zenyatta player icon, 20 stars for the Deep in Thought spray, and 30 stars for the Subaquatic Zenyatta epic skin. In Week Three, from April 20th to April 27th, you can earn double stars for Storm Rising, and need ten for the Camouflage Mercy player icon, 20 stars for the Night Mission spray, and 30 stars for the Camouflage Mercy epic skin.

The Overwatch Archives 2021 event ends on April 27th.
