Path of Exile Ultimatum expansion arrives later this month

By Heidi Nicholas,
During a Path of Exile livestream, developer Grinding Gear Games announced that Path of Exile's Ultimatum expansion arrives later this month, on April 16th for PC and April 21st for consoles. We also got a second trailer for Path of Exile 2. You can check out the Ultimatum trailer below.

"In Path of Exile: Ultimatum, you must undertake the trials of Chaos and choose whether to risk it all for ultimate power." The expansion introduces new items, the Ultimatum challenge league, "eight new Skill and Support Gems," and more. Over on the Path of Exile site, the devs say you'll be offered a reward for each challenge you face. When you've overcome the challenge, you can either decide to leave with the rewards you've already won, or risk it all on facing more challenges for more rewards, with the knowledge that failure in any challenge will cost you every reward you've won so far.

The livestream also gave us a look at a new trailer for Path of Exile 2. It's been a while since we've had any Path of Exile 2 news — apart from a few months ago when the devs said Path of Exile 2 will likely launch in 2022 — so a full trailer is good to see. Grinding Gear says Path of Exile 2 is "a new seven-act storyline that is available alongside the original Path of Exile 1 campaign," and that "both the old and new storyline lead to the same shared Atlas endgame." Path of Exile 2 brings a new skill system, 19 new ascendancy classes, a new system for Support and Skill gems, new equipment, and more. The devs also confirm that they are "unlikely to start a Beta until 2022 at the earliest." We'll keep you updated, but in the meantime, what do you think of the Ultimatum expansion for the first game, and the trailer for Path of Exile 2? Let us know in the comments!
