TA Gaming Stats - July 4th to July 10th 2011

By Dog of Thunder, 7 years ago

This week I am proud to announce the debut of the Windows Phone 7 category, in addition to a category that is a TrueAchievements exclusive, "Total TrueAchievements Won By Genre." In addition to the new categories we have expanded the Top 5 to a Top 10 in each category, and separated the "Top Achievements Won" into Retail/Arcade/WP7.

Enough from me, let's check out some large, awe-inspiring numbers!

This report is for the period July 4th to July 10th 2011.

Games Started
29,100 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 51,726 games between them (1,449 different games).

6 gamers separate first place from second place on our "Top Retail Games Started" chart. Pulling out the photo finish is Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon, which was not my prediction for the top spot. I thought our number two, F.E.A.R. 3, would reign for another week.

As impressive as the ongoing popularity of Portal 2 is, let's have a round of applause for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. Released in November 2010, the latest entry in the Assassin's Creed franchise has some serious staying power.

Top Retail Games Started

We have been posting these stats for over two months now, and so the old maxim of "If an arcade title is on sale, people will buy it in droves", has been proven again and again. This week is no different as the recent Deal of the Week on Torchlight has propelled the dungeon crawler to number one.

The bizarre Half-Minute Hero: Super Mega Neo Climax holds on strong at number two. I approve of the community snapping this game up like Pez. I am also proud of the community for knocking Harms Way off the chart.

Top Arcade Games Started

In our debut "Windows Phone 7 Games Started" chart, is it any surprise that Angry Birds (WP) is number one? By a lot?

I have a theory about the WP7 games that they will sell hundreds of copies in their first week of release. After that first week? A very steep decline in sales. The low price point and casual nature of these games makes me think it is very front-runner oriented. We will have some numbers to back this up, or disprove it, in a few months.

Games Completed
6,633 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 9,456 games between them (976 different games).

Still feeling the effects of recent DLC, Call of Duty: Black Ops is again on top. I will instead focus on Transformers: Dark of the Moon hanging out in second yet again. Sporting a 30% completion rate at this point it is far and away the most completed game in the franchise. Transformers: The Game is the second most completed with a 9.42% completion rate.

Kudos to Borderlands making it onto the chart. If Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood was a testament to the staying power of quality games, Borderlands is the final proof that great games are timeless.

Top Retail Games Completed

Really? Harms Way again? Might as just accept the weekly appearance of Doritos' second easiest completion. With only a 54% completion rate, we could see this game every single week.

As a nerd with many interests, I am curious how many of you finishing up Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 have played the card game? Anyone plan to pick it up after experiencing the digital version of Magic 2012?

Top Arcade Games Completed

In our debut showing of the "Top Windows Phone 7 Games Completed" chart, it is crystal clear the hurdle to clear for listing is very, very low. Women's Murder Club (WP) beats out Harm's Way in completion percentage with a stunning 79% having finished the title.

I would like to credit those brave souls that have already finished off Angry Birds by breaking 250,000 blocks. I hope those of you that unlocked a real grinder of an achievement at least enjoyed the journey.

Achievements Won
57,723 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 775,441 achievements online between them (38,757 different achievements).

"Top Retail Achievements Won" are split between our most popular title, Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon and our most completed title, Call of Duty: Black Ops, yet neither were able to claim the top spot thanks to the https://www.trueachievements.com/YOU-DONT-KNOW-JACK-xbo....htm date-sensitive achievement:

Turns out a lot of people were waiting to unlock that one with a timestamp on it.

Top Retail Achievements Won

Naturally the "Top Started" arcade title, Torchlight is at the top of the chart. Dead Block and Stacking are unexpectedly upsetting the order of things.

Did you really expect any different for our first "Top Windows Phone 7 Achievements Won" chart?

Total TrueAchievements won by Genre

This is my new favorite chart. While the popularity of the Shooter genre does not surprise me, Role-Playing beating out Sports sure does.

I will make another bold prediction, that Strategy will always be towards the bottom of this chart. The sheer time commitment required for most of those games is astounding.
