Scarlet Nexus trailer details Psionic hormones, Brain Punk futures, & brain-eating Others

By Heidi Nicholas,
Psionic hormones, Brain Punk futures, and brain-eating Others — there's a lot going on in Scarlet Nexus, which has luckily just dropped an explanation trailer to help make sense of it a bit.

Scarlet Nexus starts you off in Suoh, a key city in New Himuka, in a world which is regularly under threat from brain-hunting mutants known as Others. The Other Suppression Force, or OSF, stands as humanity's only defence against them. The OSF is made up of those with a "psionic hormone" which grants them otherworldly powers to use in the fight against the Others, and its most powerful members are known as the Scarlet Guardians.

We get a glimpse of the gorgeous world in Scarlet Nexus, while the trailer also reveals some of its creepier aspects. Everyone's brain is linked to something called Psynet, "a huge network that bonds everyone and everything together." The OSF, meanwhile, make use of the Struggle Arms System, or SAS, "a brain-to-brain connection with virtual cables" which allows them to briefly access each other's powers.

We also learn the reason for the Others' continual attacks — "tormented by constant pain, they seek brains of living organisms to calm their madness." The trailer also briefly showcases a few of these mutants, such as the Vase Paws, the Brawn Yawn, and the terrifying Court Mourt, "the most massive recorded Other sighting in history." We're told not to engage with it, which of course means we should expect a terrifying encounter with it at some point during the game.

Scarlet Nexus launches on June 25th. What do you think? Will you be picking it up? Let us know in the comments!
