Halo Infinite will have permanent battle passes and no loot boxes

By Sean Carey,
343 Industries has revealed that Halo Infinite's free-to-play multiplayer won't include loot boxes but will have a battle pass progression system instead.

In a new overview video (embedded above), 343 Industries spoke more on the free-to-play multiplayer launching this holiday. The developers confirmed there will be no loot boxes in Halo Infinite for customisation options. Instead, the game will feature a permanent battle pass that never expires. When new battle passes are introduced in future seasons, you can purchase old battle passes and the current battle pass and choose which one to put your progression towards.

"All of these rewards are single source, so you're never going to be confused about where things come from," says 343 Industries live design director Ryan Paradis. "If you can unlock something in the battle pass, we're not going to let any other players circumvent that by purchasing it out of the storefront."

The developer then says that all customisation content is cosmetic, and a lot of it is unlocked by playing the game.

Halo Infinite launches for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Window 10 this holiday.
