Xbox Game Studios Publishing hires lead Portal designer as Cloud Gaming director

By Sean Carey,
Kim Swift, lead designer on Portal, has joined Xbox Game Studios Publishing as senior director of Cloud Gaming to "accelerate our innovation and collaborate with independent studios to build games for the cloud."

Swift is known for her work on Portal, serving as the project lead and designer for Valve's innovative puzzle-platform game before joining the Left 4 Dead team as a designer and artist. She has also worked as a creative director at Airtight Games, and as a studio design director for EA Motive, where she worked on Star Wars Battlefront II. In her most recent position, Swift served as game design director at Stadia Games and Entertainment.

In an interview with Polygon, Xbox Game Studios publishing head, Peter Wyse, said, "Kim is going to build a team focused on new experiences in the cloud, something that’s going to support our mission of bringing our Xbox games to connect 3 billion gamers to play our games."

Shortly after the announcement was made, VentureBeat claimed Swift would be working with Hideo Kojima's Kojima Productions if and when Microsoft closes a deal to bring Kojima's next game to Xbox.
