Have you ever fancied yourself as a virtual Jack Sparrow? Well, now you'll have the chance to try some piracy (the sea-faring kind!) for yourself. The opportunity comes as Kalypso Media has announced that Port Royale 3 will be coming to the Xbox 360.

The latest iteration in the successful economic simulation franchise, Port Royale 3 will task players with setting sail around the Caribbean in the 17th century.

Rest assured, success in the game won't be a simple case of just sailing round and round in circles. In fact, gamers can choose to be a "heroic captain, villainous brigand or savvy merchantman". Once players have decided on their preferred character type, they'll have to embark on one of two paths: adventurer or trader. More details follow on what each of those career paths will involve:

Following the path of the adventurer will lead the player on a naval conquest where they must gain notoriety through raids, piracy, bounty hunting, plundering and conquering cities as they strive to build their new Caribbean empire.

The route of the trader sees the player using their economic know-how to become the most powerful trading tycoon in the New World by setting up trade routes, building production facilities and developing cities.
Furthermore, a hybrid "career" path can be forged in the game's Free Play mode by intertwining the skill set of the adventurer and trader to allow for more creative, and varied, gameplay. In addition, the title will also feature several multiplayer modes to allow gamers to pit their commercial and economic know-how against other players in an attempt to rule the waves.

Port Royale 3 is currently being developed by Gaming Minds (a Kalypso Media-owned studio), and you can expect to set sail when the title is released in Q2 2012.
