Apex Legends could be getting an Xbox Series X|S version soon

By Sean Carey,
It appears that an Xbox Series X|S version of Apex Legends could be coming soon. A PS5 version of the battle royale game has been spotted on the PlayStation Network.

PlayStation Game Size, a Twitter account that keeps a keen eye on the PlayStation Store, claims to have spotted a PS5 version of Apex Legends with a download size of 80GB. Unfortunately, no release date or any other information has been shared at this time. While nothing has been spotted on the Xbox side of things, it's probably safe to assume that there will be an Xbox Series X|S version or upgrade coming.

A current-gen version of Apex Legends has been in the works for some time now. In August last year, Respawn's then director of communications, Ryan Rigney, confirmed on Reddit that a new-gen update was in development but stopped short of saying when it would roll out to players. "I WISH I had an update to share, but we can't say anything definitive at the moment," Rigney said. "Trust us though, it's in the works, and we're excited about it too."

As it stands, Apex Legends is playable on Xbox Series X|S via backwards compatibility, where it supports up to 1440p resolution. EA said in 2020 that "more formal enhancements" for the shooter would come in 2021, but they are yet to arrive.

Respawn is yet to confirm anything about a current-gen upgrade for the game, but Season 12 in Apex Legends is due to start on February 8th. Perhaps we'll hear something more on an Xbox Series X|S version nearer that date.
