Xbox Gameplay Chart: Spelunky 2 makes its debut amongst the top 40

By Tom West,
This week's Xbox Gameplay Chart shows that the top 10 remain an immovable force, but further on down the list, there has been quite the shake-up, with the likes of Spelunky 2 making its debut. Here is the top 40 Xbox Gameplay Chart for the week ending January 16th, 2022.

Halo Infinite is continuing its nine-week streak in the top spot this week, with the other nine titles in the top ten refusing to budge an inch, although with some of the releases that are on the way, we could be looking at some new additions. With Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Extraction launching on Thursday and simultaneously dropping into the Xbox Game Pass catalogue, there is potential for it to shoot to the top of the chart much like Back 4 Blood did in October 2021. Although on the same day as Extraction launches, another challenger will emerge, gunning to become the leader of the pack or the "top dog" — yes, we're talking about Pupperazzi, and it launches into Xbox Game Pass too.

Looking at the rest of the list, Destiny 2 has hopped up one place to 11th, possibly due to players getting prepped for The Witch Queen expansion that launches next month, pushing Roblox down into 12th. FIFA 22 (Xbox One) is continuing its rise through the chart at 13th. PUBG has climbed another thirteen places to comfortable sit at 16th, most likely due to it recently becoming free-to-play. Mass Effect Legendary Edition is continuing to enjoy the Xbox Game Pass spotlight, nestling just under PUBG at 17th, while Overwatch again falls another place into 18th. Halo: The Master Chief Collection is feeling the weight of Halo Infinite's rise to fame, falling another six places to 24th. Battlefield 2042 has now begun to drop as well due to its Free Play Days coming to an end. In fact, the Xbox One version has fallen out of the top 40 completely, while the Xbox Series X|S version has stepped down into 29th. Towards the bottom of the list, Spelunky 2's release has seen it enter the chart at 38th, and Kill It With Fire has rejoined the fight at 39th most likely due to its recent Xbox Game Pass Quest.

There are plenty of games looming on the horizon that could give this list a severe shake-up, such as Rainbow Six Extraction, Dying Light 2, Elden Ring, and more. The next couple of months will certainly be an exciting time, and we look forward to seeing how it affects the chart!
