Respawn's third title still in development despite losing creative director – report

By Tom West,
Respawn Entertainment’s unannounced AAA title has just lost its creative director, but according to industry insider and VentureBeat writer, Jeff Grubb, the project is still being developed.

Mohammad Alavi announced his departure from the studio last week on his social media accounts, highlighting the fact that in his 18 years as a developer, he’s only worked for two studios: Infinity Ward and Respawn Entertainment. His most notable work at Infinity Ward was as the designer of the controversial Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 level, No Russian. During his time with Respawn, he worked on Titanfall and Apex Legends, with his most recent position being the creative director of Respawn’s currently unannounced FPS, which according to VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb, won’t be cancelled in Alavi’s absence.

Respawn have been very secretive about the new project, with only snippets of information being mentioned. The studio has previously stated that this third project won’t be a sequel to Titanfall and Titanfall 2, but it is being developed alongside Apex Legends and the rumoured Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sequel. According to Grubb’s sources, the project is a single-player first-person shooter adventure game with “AAA ambitions” and a focus on “mobility” and “style.”

The next year or so will reportedly see Respawn working on prototype concepts of the game, with EA planning to release it in 2024/2025. We’ll let you know when further information surfaces about this mysterious project.
