Introducing the TrueAchievements Discord server [updated]

By Rich Stone,
Update: We have rewritten our Discord verification bot and the server should now be working correctly. If you're still having issues, the dev team has put together a quick step-by-step guide to walk you through the process:

ta discord

  1. Create an account on trueachievements.com by registering here, or sign in to your TA account.
  2. Go to your Login Linking page by clicking here.
  3. Click on the link button for Discord. You will then be redirected to a page that will ask to log into your Discord account. On successful login, it will display a screen with "True Achievements Bot would like to gain access to your Discord profile information," as well as the Discord tag and discriminator (ie. Suharun#4321) next to "Signed in as."
  4. Check that the displayed profile is the same as the Discord profile you want to link. To do so, compare the Discord tag and discriminator with your current logged in Discord account either in the Discord app or on the web version.
  5. If it matches, click on 'authorize' and thats it! If it doesn't match, then click "Not you?" to log out and log in again.
  6. Join the Discord server by clicking here.
Hope that helps... see you on Discord!

Original story: Discord has been the go-to chat platform for gamers for a good few years now, and here at TrueAchievements, we are often asked if we have any plans to launch a TrueAchievements Discord server for our community.

Initially, we thought it simpler to keep community discussion in the TrueAchievements forums. However, a Discord server offers many advantages over a forum, including its immediacy, prevalence on mobile and desktop, and voice channels.

We are pleased to announce that we have now taken the plunge and built the TrueAchievements Discord server.

In order to use the server properly, you'll need to link your Discord account to your TrueAchievements account — you can do that on this page.

Your nickname in the TrueAchievements discord

Linking your account will set your nickname on the server to your Gamertag, which will make it far easier for you to identify your friends once you are on the server. If you update your Gamertag on Xbox, we'll pick up the name change the next time you are scanned by our scanners and apply it to your Discord nickname as well as your profile on the site.

TA Pro members

TrueAchievements Pro account holders will also have a yellow star next to their name to indicate their Pro status, and will have access to some Pro-only channels in the server.

Depending on feedback from Pro members, we may retire the existing TA Pro Discord server and migrate those channels to a Pro-only section of the general TA Discord server. Let us know what you think, Pros!

Server rules

Most of the normal TrueAchievements rules apply in the Discord server as well, with a few exceptions. Please also follow the Discord Community Guidelines. You can read them all here.

Remember that access to the Discord is a privilege, not a right. Failure to adhere to these rules and/or continued troublesome behaviour will result in a permanent ban from the server.
  • No attacking behaviour, harassment or threats. Playful banter is okay, but don’t be a dick.
  • No political or religious discussion.
  • No spam or excessive vulgarities.
  • No bigotry, racism, nazism, homophobia, or other forms of hate speech. We strive to be a welcoming and open environment for all gamers.
  • Do not impersonate TGN staff or other members.
  • No porn, gore, or NSFW material is allowed.
  • Moderation decisions are final. Please do not clog up the chats with discussion or whining about moderator actions. If you feel like you were treated unfairly, contact another member of the Mod team.
  • Keep all spoilers in the Spoiler Chat channel.
  • Do not tag or bother the Developers for moderation issues or bug reports. A moderator will handle problems in the Discord and can pass along bug reports.

Yo! Rich here - I was the one that created TrueAchievements back in 2008 as I felt the Xbox Gamerscore system could be improved. The site has evolved massively since then and it's now the biggest and best Xbox community on the planet! Racing games and open world shooters are my thing, but I'll give most genres a go. Except RPGs - those things are evil.
