In possibly the greatest piece of news ever to be released upon the world, Valve, the masterminds behind the PC hit Counter-Strike
have confirmed they are bringing the series to Xbox LIVE.
Valve are teaming up with Hidden Path Entertainment to work on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
, which promises to be an updated version of the twelve-year-old title.
Doug Loumbard, VP or Marketing at Valve said:
The game will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched exactly 12 years ago. Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999. For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac.
He also confirmed that it would feature more weapons and maps than the original, as well as old classic maps such as "de_dust". Fans will now be left hoping that other old favourites such as "office" and "cs_mansion" make it into the game.Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
is slated for an early 2012 release.
